This season Man City will play some of its biggest away matches in a kit inspired by the playoff victory at Wembley in 1999 that secured the team’s promotion from the Second Division to the First Division of The Football League .
The game was extraordinary. All was level until the 81st minute, when Gillingham scored and quickly followed up with another 6 minutes later. Many City fans thought the game was over, but City levelled the game with goals in the 90th and 95th minute of the game.
Penalties ensued and City won to gain promotion.
Paying homage to this crucial first step in Manchester City’s revival, the green trim from the club’s yellow and black 1999 shirt provides the color palate for this new third kit.
A black gradient creeps up the sleeves and shorts, Nike claim the purpose of this is: “To accentuate the players’ physical presence underneath the floodlights.”
Black socks complete the look.
